TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ari Yusuf Amir, legal advisor to Former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, stated that his client will be released from detention today. This is due to the issuance of a Presidential Decree granting clemency to Tom Lembong.
"Alhamdulillah, the Presidential Decree has been signed," said Ari Yusuf on the front page of Cipinang Detention Center, East Jakarta, Friday, August 1, 2025.
He mentioned that he has received the Presidential Decree granting clemency to Tom Lembong directly from Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly Sufmi Dasco. The letter is currently on its way to Cipinang Detention Center.
Ari Yusuf stated that the Presidential Decree has been issued on August 1, so legally Tom Lembong must be released on the same day as the issuance of the Presidential Decree. "In the afternoon or at the latest tonight, God willing, Mr. Tom will be released," he said.
The government and the People's Consultative Assembly had previously announced the granting of clemency to the convicted in the sugar import corruption case, Tom Lembong, and amnesty to the General Secretary of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto.
Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly Sufmi Dasco Ahmad mentioned that the clemency request for Tom Lembong was submitted by Prabowo through Presidential Letter Number R43/Pres 07.2025 dated July 30, 2025.
"We have held a consultation meeting, and based on the results of the meeting, we have provided considerations and approval," Dasco said at a press conference at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday night, July 31, 2025.
In addition to granting clemency to Tom Lembong, the People's Consultative Assembly approved the President's proposal to grant amnesty to 1,116 individuals. One of them is the General Secretary of the PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto.
"The approval regarding the amnesty for 1,116 convicts, including Hasto Kristiyanto," said Dasco.
