ALLETE, Inc. has reported its financial results for the second quarter of 2025, revealing notable changes in sales and net income. The company reported total contracts with customers in the utility sector amounting to $305.1 million, up from $279.8 million in the same period of 2024. However, contracts with non-utility customers decreased to $53.8 million from $73.5 million the previous year. Net income attributable to ALLETE stood at $31.9 million for the second quarter of 2025, a slight decrease from $33.0 million in 2024. Basic earnings per share of common stock were reported at $0.55, down from $0.57 in the second quarter of the prior year. New Energy Equity, a subsidiary of ALLETE, recorded a quarterly net income of $4.7 million, a decline from $7.7 million in 2024, attributed to lower sales of renewable energy projects due to the timing of project closings. This decrease was partially offset by increased earnings from tax equity-financed solar energy facilities. ALLETE's Corporate and Other businesses, including BNI Energy and ALLETE Properties, reported a net income of $3.3 million, marking a significant turnaround from a net loss of $10.8 million in 2024. The improvement was driven by reduced merger-related expenses and lower income tax expenses. Merger-related expenses were $3.4 million after-tax in 2025, compared to $14.5 million in 2024. The results were primarily impacted by lower industrial margins due to decreased sales to taconite customers.
