据美国国家运输安全委员会称，初步信息显示 MD 369 直升机在坠毁前撞上了电线。
联邦航空管理局表示，直升机坠毁时机上有两人，国家运输安全委员会将负责调查。美国国家运输安全委员会的一名调查员预计将于周五抵达现场。
电力公司Ameren Corp AEE.N称，一家承包商和分包商正在维修和更换输电线路上的塔灯和标志球。
Ameren表示： "我们对今天发生的悲惨事件感到悲痛，"并表示将与调查人员合作。
海岸警卫队发言人乔纳森-林德伯格（Jonathan Lindberg）说，驳船上没有人，驳船在撞击后起火。他说，消防员扑灭了大火。
