尖峰工会机构澳大利亚工会理事会（ACTU）计划在下周的经济圆桌会议上推动每周四天工作制，并且保证工人工资不降低。
工会于周三上午宣布，他们将提议在合适的领域推行每周四天工作制。部分行业可能会采取更灵活的方式，例如增加轮休天数。
ACTU在一份声明中强调，包括加班费、超时补贴最低人员配置在内的薪资待遇将受到保障，确保缩短工作周不会导致收入减少。
ACTU主席奥尼尔（Michele O’Neil）说，缩短工作时间对劳资双方都有益处，它能提高生产效率，让劳动者拥有更幸福、更健康、更平衡的生活。对某些行业的工人而言，缩短工作时间可以通过实行每周四天工作制来实现。而对另一些人来说，则可以通过增加休息时间或更公平的轮班制度等其他方式来实现。在人工智能时代，公平的原则应该是提高所有人的生活水平，而不仅仅是增加企业利润和高管奖金。
