Balkan Mining and Minerals (ASX:BMM) said a second phase rock chip and soil sampling program at its Bayan Springs South project in Nevada returned the highest gold grades yet, including 8.25 grams-per-tonne of gold at the East target and 0.664 g/t of gold at the South target, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.

A total of 147 soil samples and 12 stream sediment samples identified continuous and coherent gold-anomalous zones.

The firm added that it decided to withdraw from its option to acquire the Gorge lithium project in Canada.

Its shares jumped 11% in recent trading on Thursday.
