Z.ai partnered with Alibaba Group's (HKG:9988) cloud computing unit to launch an AI agent that can autonomously carry out general functions, the South China Morning Post reported Thursday, citing the Chinese artificial intelligence unicorn's post on social platform WeChat.

Alibaba Cloud will enable Z.ai's AI agent through its online platform. The AI agent, which was free and available on iOS and Android mobile platforms, can manage tasks on behalf of a user, such as making online reservations and ordering food, the report said.

The user can activate the AI agent through the provision of instructions. The agent could also takeover the phone if the user enables it, Z.ai said in the report.
