1141 ET - The partnership struck between CSX and BNSF Railway connecting the east and west coasts is the result of long-standing negotiations, and not a knee-jerk reaction to Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern's recent deal to combine and form the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S., Deutsche Bank analysts Richa Harnain and Megan Makini say in a research note. They got in touch with CSX after its BNSF arrangement was unveiled on Friday. The potential for intermodal partnerships was first teased out at a Deutsche conference earlier this month by CSX's chief commercial officer, the analysts say. The partnership was also reached independent of CSX's ongoing strategic review, they say. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
