Meituan Likely to Have Lost Market Share to Alibaba -- Market Talk

0427 GMT - Meituan has likely lost market share in the food delivery and quick commerce business to rival Alibaba Group, Nomura analysts say in a note. Meituan's management says its 70% market share in core food-related orders hasn't changed, even as it expects protracted food-delivery competition. However, the analysts estimate Meituan's food-delivery and quick commerce market share has shrunk to around 50% from 70%, while Alibaba's market share has likely gained to about 40% from 30%. While competition eased slightly in August, Meituan says it has no visibility from September as Alibaba has dictated the direction of the competition so far. Nomura maintains its buy rating and HK$176 target on Meituan shares, which are 10% lower at HK$104.20.(megan.cheah@wsj.com)
