Roche's U.S. subsidiary Genentech on Monday broke ground on a new $700 million manufacturing facility in North Carolina.
The facility is designed to produce metabolic medicines, including treatments for obesity, and will be 700,000 square feet. Located in Holly Springs, N.C., it is Genentech's first manufacturing site on the east coast.
The facility will add more than 400 local manufacturing jobs when the site is operational and more than 1,500 construction jobs during its development phase, Genentech said.
The facility is scheduled to be completed and operational by 2029.
The project is part of a commitment Roche made in April to spend $50 billion on manufacturing, infrastructure, and research and development in the U.S. over the next five years.
