美国联邦贸易委员会（FTC）主席安德鲁·弗格森（Andrew Ferguson）致信谷歌母公司Alphabet首席执行官桑达尔·皮查伊，指责谷歌邮箱（Gmail）使用了FTC所谓的党派过滤。
“我从最近的报道中了解到，Gmail的垃圾邮件过滤器通常会阻止来自共和党人的信息到达消费者手中，但未能阻止民主党人发送的类似信息，”弗格森在信中说。
Gmail的一位发言人表示，Gmail的垃圾邮件过滤器对所有人都适用，无论其政治意识形态如何。
谷歌过去曾否认共和党和保守派的类似说法。
美国共和党人长期以来一直指责大型科技公司歧视和压制保守派观点，这些公司否认了这一说法。近几个月来，许多科技公司都致力于与今年1月上任的共和党总统特朗普建立友好关系。
谷歌发言人表示，该公司将审查这封信，并“建设性地”参与其中。
他表示：“Gmail的垃圾邮件过滤器会查看各种客观信号，比如人们是否将特定的电子邮件标记为垃圾邮件，或者特定的广告代理是否发送了大量的电子邮件，这些电子邮件通常被人们标记为垃圾邮件。无论政治意识形态如何，这对所有发送者都是平等的。”
FTC主席在信中警告谷歌，不符合规定的行为“可能导致FTC的调查和潜在的执法行动”。
此前，一名美国法官驳回了共和党全国委员会指控谷歌故意将该党的电子邮件信息误导到用户的垃圾邮件文件夹的诉讼。
