Gilead Sciences (GILD) said Wednesday it started construction of a new Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Technical Development Center at its headquarters in Foster City, California.
The project is part of the company's planned $32 billion investment in US innovation through 2030.
Gilead said the five-story, 180,000 square foot facility will feature digitally enabled systems, autonomous robotics, and real-time digital monitoring.
The project is expected to create more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to the company.
Gilead added that it is also currently developing a new research building and a biologics manufacturing facility at its headquarters.
