Enanta Pharmaceuticals's long-time chief financial officer, Paul Mellett Jr., has died.

Mellett, who was 70 years old, joined Enanta as finance chief in 2003 and helped lead the Watertown, Mass., biotechnology company's initial public offering in 2013.

Enanta in late August said Harry Trout III, vice president of finance, would serve as interim principal financial officer and Kathleen Capps, executive director of accounting and controller, would step in as interim principal accounting officer while Mellett took a medical leave of absence.
