Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 1.5%.

US equity indexes headed lower after midday on Tuesday amid a sharp move higher in government bond yields, gold futures, and the dollar.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each lost 0.1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 1.7%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) shed 3.3%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was down 2.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 1.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) declined 3.6%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), climbed 3.9%.

Commodities

Crude oil added 2.6%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 2.6%. Natural gas fell 2.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was down 2.3%.

Gold on Comex rose 2.2%, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 2%. Silver gained 2.3%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 2.3% up.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) slipped 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed, with the latter rising 0.1%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.9%, VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) declined as well.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) lost 0.3%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) edged lower. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 1.1%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 1.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) added 1.8%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) was up 2.5%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) lost 0.9%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) gained 2.1%.
