Campbell's Says 'No Choice But To Import' Steel For Soup Cans -- Market Talk

1005 ET - Campbell's likely won't be able to offset the impact of tariffs by just moving production to the U.S., CEO Mick Beekhuizen says on the company's analyst call. For the steel used to produce soup cans, "there's not enough capacity available in the United States or supply available in the United States," Beekhuizen says. "If it was available, we would buy it locally. We're not able to do that. So as a result, we have no choice but to import that key raw material for our product." The company says its soup could see some "surgical" price increases to offset the tariffs. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
