ABC-Mart (TYO:2670) said sales at all stores rose 8.7% in August from a year earlier, lifted by persistent summer heat and back-to-school demand, according to a Tuesday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Comparable store sales gained 8.5%, the company said. Kids' shoes under a discount promotion and new sports shoe launches performed strongly, while one extra Sunday in the calendar also supported sales.
ABC-MART operated 1,086 stores at the end of August, with one opening and one closure during the month.
