智通财经APP获悉，力拓(RIO.US)已签约成为澳大利亚新平台所供应碳信用额的未来购买方。据周一发布的声明称，这家总部位于墨尔本的矿业巨头将成为Meldora平台的主要采方。该设施的启动获得了来自加拿大养老基金La Caisse的 2 亿澳元(约合 1.31 亿美元)投资以及澳大利亚政府旗下Clean Energy Finance Corp的 5000 万澳元投资。
企业会购买碳信用额度来抵消自身的排放量，而矿业企业的排放量通常较为巨大。力拓的目标是到 2030 年将其范围 1 和 2 的排放量(即直接排放和间接排放)从 2018 年的水平降低一半，其中碳信用额度将占减排量的 10%。
Meldora平台已购入其首个资产——位于昆士兰州的一处面积超过 15000 公顷的农场，该农场将采用可持续农业模式，并进行碳捕获与储存。
不过，碳排放信用证的使用方式仍存在争议，因为它允许企业无需进行彻底的减排就能继续运营。
