Daktronics swung to a first-quarter profit and said it saw significant order growth, led by project wins for three major league stadiums.

The electronic scoreboard and video display company posted net income of $16.5 million, or 33 cents a share, up from a loss of $4.9 million, or 11 cents a share, the year prior.

Product backlog increased to $360.3 million from $267.2 million, while the company's orders rose 35% to $238.5 million. Its live events orders increased 81% to $92.2 million, driven by three major league stadium projects as well as multiple university projects. Orders for its high school park and recreation division rose 36% to $63.3 million, due to the continued adoption of video in schools.

The company said it drove higher profitability through value-based pricing and better alignment between revenue and manufacturing capacity.

Daktronics recorded $219 million in sales, down from $226.1 million the previous year. It reiterated its three-year forward objective of 7% to 10% sales growth.
