0952 GMT - ASML Holding's investment in French artificial-intelligence startup Mistral reflects a geopolitical interest in European tech sovereignty, ING analyst Marc Hesselink writes in a note. The Dutch semiconductor-equipment maker highlighted the strategic nature of the deal, Hesselink notes. Also, the investment will have a minimal impact on the company as it represents just 0.5% of its market cap and is easily covered by its financial position, he says. "We view this as a strategic boost for Mistral's industrial AI ambitions, which could make the investment attractive over time," he says. However, ASML could experience deeper involvement in global geopolitics and potential pressure to commit further capital in future AI funding rounds, he adds. ASML shares are up 0.1% at 677.50 euros.
