Thai Hotel Sector Likely Banking on 4Q Travel Season -- Market Talk

Yesterday

0309 GMT - The hopes of Thailand's hotel operators likely rest on the high travel season in 4Q, UOB Kay Hian analysts write in a note. These companies reported higher combined 2Q core profit, largely due to the strong performance of Minor International's European hotels, and Thailand's 3Q tourism outlook is likely to remain dull, they say. Hotels in key Chinese tourist destinations could continue to suffer given slow tourist arrivals from China, the analysts add. However, room bookings for 4Q show promise, and many renovated assets should be ready in time for the peak festive weeks, they say. UOB KH retains its market weight call on the sector. Minor International is its top pick, with a buy rating and THB38.00 target. Shares were last at THB24.30. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
