Lufthansa Seeks to Raise ITA Airways Stake to 90%, Corriere della Sera Says, Citing Sources

-- Deutsche Lufthansa is in discussions with the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance to increase its stake in ITA Airways to 90%, Italian daily Corriere della Sera reports, citing sources.

-- The German carrier group, which currently has a 41% stake in the Italian airline, would pay 325 million euros ($380 million) for another 49% stake, Corriere della Sera reports. The company might also pay another 100 million euros if ITA Airways reaches certain milestones. The transaction is expected to take place in June, according to the report.

-- Lufthansa and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance declined to comment to the Italian daily. However, Lufthansa Chief Executive Carsten Spohr recently told the news outlet on the sidelines of an event in Frankfurt that ITA Airways was progressing better than expected and that he was happy with the investment so far.
