Swedbank Still Faces Possible Fines From U.S. Probes -- Market Talk

0946 GMT - Swedbank could still face regulatory penalties, Citi analysts write. The Swedish banking group avoided a fine from the SEC, but the majority of financial penalties are expected from probes by the DoJ and Department of Financial Services in New York, which are still open, they say. Most analysts had expected total fines of 5 billion to 10 billion Swedish kronor, which will now likely come down after the SEC ruling, the analysts say. "We note that a law firm found Swedbank processed over 40 billion euros of illicit funds, versus Danske Bank processing over 200 billion euros, which should limit the extent of any fine versus Danske's 19 billion kronor." Shares fall 0.2%. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
