RH CEO Warns Small Furniture Companies Could Break Tariffs -- Market Talk

1752 ET - RH's CEO Gary Friedman says additional tariffs on furniture imports could be an insurmountable hurdle for small furniture companies. "While strong brands like ours will benefit from the likely dislocation and consolidation more tariffs will have on our industry, many smaller companies will have difficulty surviving these levels of tariffs," he says in a letter to shareholders. Manufacturing for high quality wood or metal furniture does not exist at scale in the U.S., and would require years of investments that most in the industry cannot afford, Friedman says. His comments come as the Trump administration investigates furniture imports. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
