11 月，特斯拉股东将对首席执行官埃隆・马斯克一份为期 10 年、价值 1 万亿美元的拟议薪酬方案进行投票。在此背景下，特斯拉董事会主席罗宾・登霍姆接受《纽约时报》采访，为这一有望成为企业史上金额最高的薪酬方案进行辩护。
登霍姆同时也是拟定该薪酬方案的特别委员会成员，她认为，马斯克需要借助与超高薪酬挂钩的重大挑战来获得激励。与此同时，她表示，马斯克对这份承诺中的特斯拉股票所代表的额外财富兴趣不大，更关注的是股票附带的投票权。
“我觉得核心问题明明是投票影响力，却要去谈论金额多少，这有点奇怪。” 登霍姆说道。《纽约时报》称，她在采访过程中 “偶尔显得有些不自在”。
眼下特斯拉的利润与汽车销量均在下滑，此时推出如此巨额的薪酬方案，或许也显得不符合常理，但登霍姆坚称，该方案关注的是 “未来业绩”。
“这与过往业绩无关，” 她说，“如果他未能达成相关目标，就分文得不到。”
正如媒体此前指出的，该薪酬方案中的目标，远不如马斯克过去针对特斯拉作出的部分承诺那样宏大。
