Via Transportation (VIA) and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Waymo said Thursday they have forged a partnership to launch autonomous public transit services, beginning with Chandler, Arizona.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deployment in Chandler will begin this fall, allowing users of the city's Chandler Flex microtransit service to receive rides in Waymo vehicles using Via's routing and scheduling software, the companies said.
Via's software will allow the city to monitor service performance as well as meet federal funding, compliance, and accessibility reporting requirements, according to the joint statement.
The partnership will serve as a model for other cities' transit networks, the companies added.
Via shares were up 4.2% in recent premarket activity Thursday, while Alphabet shares added 1.3%.
