Toronto-listed stocks were higher Monday at midday thanks to a broad-based push from most sectors in the country. Materials, tech and process industries stocks were among the biggest gainers of the session, while retail, finance and transportation stocks were the main of few laggards.
On the economic front, producer prices in Canada rose 0.5% in August over the prior month despite a drop in energy prices, buoyed by meat, metal products and vehicles.
Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.3% to 29859.12 and the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 advanced 0.2% to 1765.04.
Shares of Black Diamond Group rose by 6.5% to 13.26 Canadian dollars ($9.62) after it said it will acquire Royal Camp Services, a remote accommodation and catering solution company, for C$165 million as it looks to tap into Canada's infrastructure projects.
Other market movers:
Chorus Aviation shares rose 11% to C$21.92 after the company said it will purchase up to C$50 million worth of its stock at a price of between C$23 and C$25 a share.
