1159 ET - Weakness in residential construction is continuing with a slow housing market causing homebuilders to pull back on production in order to lower inventory. That will hurt building products suppliers, say Truist analysts Keith Hughes and Julian Nirmal, who lower estimates for TopBuild, Builders FirstSource and Installed Building Products. Homebuilders lag start activity, meaning that even if sales activity picks up in the spring, suppliers will likely face continued pressure. Facing shrinking margins as they offer whopping incentives, homebuilders are also pushing hard on suppliers for price concessions. "If activity were to be down again in 2026 we believe price pressure will grow acute for all suppliers," the analysts say. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
