The share price marched upwards over that time, and is now 111% higher than it was.  So the recent fall in the share price should be viewed in that context.  If the business can perform well for years to come, then the recent drop could be an opportunity.      Although CSC Financial has shed HK$5.4b from its market cap this week, let's take a look at its longer term fundamental trends and see if they've driven returns.  Trump has pledged to \"unleash\" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit.  While markets are a powerful pricing mechanism, share prices reflect investor sentiment, not just underlying business performance.  One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).   During the three years of share price growth, CSC Financial actually saw its earnings per share (EPS) drop 5.8% per year.   This means it's unlikely the market is judging the company based on earnings growth.  Given this situation, it makes sense to look at other metrics too.  The revenue drop of 19% is as underwhelming as some politicians.  The only thing that's clear is there is low correlation between CSC Financial's share price and its historic fundamental data. It is important to consider the total shareholder return, as well as the share price return, for any given stock.  The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs.  It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend.  As it happens, CSC Financial's TSR for the last 3 years was 136%, which exceeds the share price return mentioned earlier.  This is largely a result of its dividend payments!  A Different Perspective We're pleased to report that CSC Financial shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 73% over one year.   Of course, that includes the dividend.     Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 8% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times.  Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time.
