Netflix Stock Slides 2%. Elon Musk Says He's Canceling His Subscription

Netflix stock slipped on Wednesday. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has echoed calls for a boycott of the streaming service, but the stock move is probably nothing to do with that.

"Same," Musk wrote on X Tuesday, in response to a post where a user said they had canceled their Netflix subscription.

"Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids," Musk said in a follow-up post.

Conservatives have shared screenshots that appear to show Hamish Steele, who created the animated Netflix show Dead End: Paranormal Park, criticizing U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer for condemning the assassination of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk.

Netflix shares slid 2.2% to $1,173 ahead of the opening bell. Some investors may be fretting about the potential boycott, but the stock could also just be sliding in-line with the broader market, which took a hit from the U.S. government shut down. Futures tracking the benchmark S&P 500 were 0.5% lower on Wednesday.
