Potential U.K. Gaming Tax Increase Could Hurt Entain, Flutter Earnings -- Market Talk

0657 GMT - An increase in U.K. gaming taxes in the upcoming budget could hit Flutter Entertainment and Entain's fiscal 2026 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization by 2% to 4% respectively, Citi analysts Monique Pollard writes. Treasury Chief Rachel Reeves has indicated that she could increase the tax in the budget on Nov. 26, with Pollard expecting a 5 percentage-point rise. Reeves' commentary that the government will ensure gambling firms pay a fair share taxes makes it more likely that tax rises are to come--and perhaps even more than 5 percentage points for online businesses, she says. Citi analysts expect a negative share price reaction to Flutter and Entain this morning. (aimee.look@wsj.com)
