Regulatory Changes Could Reduce Number of Available Truck Drivers -- Market Talk

1100 ET - The freight industry still has too much supply, but increased regulatory enforcement could result in a meaningful reduction in the number of available U.S. truck drivers, which could increase the likelihood of an industry rebound, say Stifel analysts. A crackdown on non-domiciled commercial driver's license holders and enforcement of English language proficiency could each represent a 5% impact in the U.S. driver population. That could increase the chances and magnitude of a freight upcycle, but those changes could take time as "insufficient enforcement resources across a mobile and highly-fragmented industry" won't make it immediate, the analysts say.
