TopBuild completed an acquisition of Specialty Products and Insulation for $1 billion in cash.

TopBuild, a specialty distributor of insulation products, said the acquisition of SPI, a distributor and fabricator of mechanical insulation, would give it a larger position in specialty distribution and extend its geographic footprint.

The company said it expected to achieve $35 million to $40 million in annual savings within two years through the merger.

SPI generated $700 million in revenue for the 12 months ended June 30.

The acquisition, which excludes SPI's metal building insulation business, closed on Tuesday.
