Telefonica Plans to Cut 6,000 Jobs, Expansion Says, Citing Unnamed Sources

-- Telefonica plans to cut at least 6,000 jobs across the group, Spanish newspaper Expansion reports citing unnamed sources.

-- The Spanish telecommunication group, which has 25,000 employees, hasn't decided which subsidiaries will be affected yet. However, the company is considering extending it to several businesses belonging to the group, Expansion says.

-- The job reductions could potentially affect the corporate center, which until now had only seen individual departures, it added.

-- A Telefonica spokesperson told Expansion that the company is working on several reviews across the company, but that there are no plans to cut the workforce at the moment.
