Automakers like Toyota Motor (TM), Ford Motor (F), and Stellantis (STLA) face potential production disruptions after a recent fire at Novelis' Oswego aluminum plant in New York, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing filings and sources familiar with the matter.

The report said Ford is the plant's biggest user, with sources saying the company is likely to flag the fire's potential impacts to the production of its F-150 pickup when it issues its quarterly financial report later this month.

Industry analysts said Novelis supplies about 40% of the aluminum sheet used in the US auto sector and a regulatory filing showed that Novelis has about 12 automaker customers including Toyota, Ford, Stellantis, Hyundai and Volkswagen, according to the report.

In a Monday update, Novelis said it is working on minimizing the Sept. 16 fire's impact on customers by sourcing materials from its global network of plants and industry peers. It operates rolling plants in Brazil, Europe and South Korea, according to the report, and is currently subject to a 50% tariff on aluminum imports.

The company said it expects the Oswego facility's hot mill to be back in operation in early Q1 2026.

Toyota, Ford, and Stellantis did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
