Shares of NextDecade retreated after the company's chief financial officer said he was leaving to pursue another opportunity.

The stock was down 6.6% at $6.95 in late Wednesday morning trading. Shares are now down about 10% year-to-date.

The natural gas liquefaction infrastructure company said before the opening bell that CFO Brent Wahl will formally depart on Oct. 20, but will serve in a consultant capacity through the end of the year.

Michael Mott, senior vice president of enterprise transformation, is stepping in as interim financial chief while the Houston-based company searches for Wahl's permanent successor.
