特朗普在一则社交媒体帖文中说：“芝加哥市长应该因为未能保护移民与海关执法局（ICE）人员而入狱！州长Pritzker也应该！”
德克萨斯州国民警卫队成员于周二开始抵达芝加哥地区，之前一名联邦法官拒绝迅速颁布临时禁令以阻止这次部署。特朗普辩称，需要部署部队来应对他所认为的针对打击移民行动的暴力抗议。
JB Pritzker Pritzker在社交媒体上予以反击，称特朗普正在呼吁逮捕对其权力进行制衡的民选代表。
这位州长写道：“在通往全面威权主义的道路上，还剩下什么？”
Johnson在一则帖文中表示：“这不是特朗普第一次试图让一名黑人遭到不公正逮捕。我不会走开的。”
特朗普的威胁发生在芝加哥及其郊区的事态连续数周升级之后。在这些地区，移民执法官员一直在开展突袭行动，联邦执法人员与抗议者在郊区Broadview的一处移民处理中心外也爆发了冲突。周二，特朗普威胁要援引《1807年叛乱法》。
他说：“你知道，这个法以前也被援引过。如果你看看芝加哥，芝加哥是一座伟大的城市，但那里犯罪很多，如果州长管不了这件事，我们就来做。”
