1344 ET - Sales of tractors in the U.S. and Canada rose in September versus this time last year, according to data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. The industry group says that tractor sales in the U.S. rose over 4% from the same month last year, while sales of tractors grew more than 7% in Canada. The group also notes that sales of combines in Canada rose 42% from the prior year. Agricultural equipment makers like Deere & Co. have reported soft demand from farmers due to weaker cash receipts for harvested crops. "After challenging months of continued sales declines the U.S. market, this modest increase is certainly encouraging," says Curt Blades, AEM Senior Vice President. (kirk.maltais@wsj.com)
