Geron said Chief Operating Officer Andrew Grethlein will depart, effective Oct. 15.

Grethlein will transition to a consulting role while pursuing other interests, the biopharmaceutical company said.

Grethlein joined Geron in 2012 and has been chief operating officer since 2019.

Chief Commercial Officer Jim Ziegler will also depart, on the same date, to pursue other interests. Ziegler will be succeeded by Ahmed ElNawawi, effective Oct. 20.

The company also named three other executives to its team, including Shanthakumar Tyavanagimatt as senior vice president, chief technical officer; Dawn Schottlandt as senior vice president, investor relations and corporate affairs; and Bryan Ridgell as senior vice president, portfolio and project management and chief of staff.

The executive transitions and appointments aim to align Geron's leadership structure with its strategic priorities, the company said.
