** S&P 500 energy index .SPNY rises 1% as oil prices edge higher O/R

** Brent crude LCOc1 up ~1% at $62.92/barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate $(WTI)$ crude futures CLc1 up 1.06% at $59.32/barrel

** Oil prices climb as investors weigh an escalation in trade tensions between the U.S. and China and the International Energy Agency's prediction of a supply surplus in 2026

** Oil and gas majors Exxon Mobil XOM.N and Chevron CVX.N each rise ~1%

** EQT Corp EQT.N, APA Corp APA.O, Williams Companies WMB.N and Expand Energy EXE.O rise between 1.4% and ~3%, among biggest pct gainers on the energy index

** Refiners Phillips 66 PSX.N and Marathon Petroleum MPC.N each up ~1%

** Oilfield services companies Halliburton HAL.N and Baker Hughes BKR.O up 2% and 1.1% respectively
