Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Advance Pre-Bell Friday

Consumer stocks were advancing pre-bell Friday, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) 0.2% higher and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) up 0.1%.

Starbucks (SBUX) shareholders led by New York City's pension funds and Trillium Asset Management have asked the board to resume talks with Starbucks Workers United and reach a first contract promptly. Shares of Starbucks were 0.4% lower premarket.

Six Flags Entertainment (FUN) said it entered a cooperation agreement with Sachem Head that includes standstill, voting, and confidentiality commitments. Six Flags Entertainment stock was 0.1% lower pre-bell.

Coca-Cola (KO) is exploring a potential $1 billion initial public offering of its Indian bottling arm, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, which could value the unit at around $10 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Coca-Cola shares were 0.4% higher premarket.
