Convenience Store Customers Opting for Energy Over Alcohol -- Market Talk
Dow Jones
Oct 18, 2025
1612 ET - Consumers at convenience stores are moving away from alcohol and toward energy drinks and protein-based or infused drinks or snacks, say JPMorgan analysts. Zero sugar and premium waters are also taking share at the expense of juices and full-sugar sodas. The analysts say that consumers are leaning into "value choices with functional properties," such as energy drinks to replace higher priced coffee. As a result of the change in preferences, convenience stores are giving more shelf space to energy drinks and protein-based products, boosting companies like Celsius and Monster Beverages, which are also releasing new varieties of their energy drinks.
