Singapore Exports Aren't in Severe Downturn -- Market Talk

0339 GMT - Singapore's exports aren't in a severe downturn despite showing signs of easing in 3Q, DBS senior economist Chua Han Teng writes in an email. NODX contracted on year in 3Q, compared with 2Q's expansion, he notes. NODX rebounded in September, but Singapore's exports to the U.S. continue to be hurt by reciprocal tariffs, he says. "While the negative impact from U.S. tariffs appears to be contained for now, we remain cautious on the outlook over the coming quarters as downside risks persist," he adds. That includes factors including contentious U.S.-China trade relations, with a potential re-escalation of tensions in October.(amanda.lee@wsj.com)
