美国哥伦比亚广播公司22日评论说，政府“停摆”的确会推高国家债务。此类事件推迟经济活动和财政决策，又因联邦项目的暂停与重启产生额外成本。美国管理和预算办公室说，2013年美国政府“停摆”造成的损失高达20亿美元。
美国彼得·彼得森基金会首席执行官迈克尔·彼得森说：“债务在政府‘停摆’期间达到38万亿美元，这是议员们未能履行基本财政职责的最新迹象，令人担忧。”仅仅两个月前，债务刚突破37万亿美元。
这家基金会预计，美国债务利息支付金额将在今后10年激增至14万亿美元。这一数字在过去十年间为4万亿美元。这将大幅挤占关键经济领域的公共与私人支出。
今年5月，信用评级机构穆迪将美国主权信用评级从最高级的Aaa下调至Aa1，这反映了投资者对美国政府债务膨胀的担忧。（卜晓明）
