The facade of the East Wing of the White House is demolished by work crews on Wednesday. The demolition is part of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to build a ballroom on the eastern side of the White House.

President Donald Trump's effort to build a big ballroom for the White House has made waves - and attracted donations from more than a dozen publicly traded companies.

White House officials have released a list of donors to the controversial project. That list is shown below. Donation amounts weren't given, but Trump on Wednesday told reporters that the project's price tag is "about $300 million," and it's "being paid for 100% by me and some friends of mine - donors."

Democratic lawmakers and other critics have blasted Trump over the ballroom project, which has resulted in a much-photographed demolition of the White House's East Wing. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, attacked Trump in a TV interview on Wednesday for not doing more to negotiate an end to the ongoing government shutdown but still finding "time to demolish the East Wing of the White House so that he can build a ballroom where he can be celebrated as if he was a king."

Trump and his allies have pushed back on criticism of the ballroom project, emphasizing that other presidents have made renovations to the White House over the years. Theodore Roosevelt added the West Wing, and faced criticism for that; Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency brought the addition of the East Wing; and an extensive Truman-era renovation of the White House shocked the public and drew intense scrutiny, according to the White House Historical Association.

"It'll be one of the great ballrooms anywhere in the world," Trump said Wednesday, adding that it's "set to do many, many things," including the "honoring of foreign leaders."
