Australian construction firm Civmec plans to shift its focus toward naval shipbuilding, aiming to leverage its industrial technology to secure orders for new frigates, Nikkei Asia reported Friday, citing Civmec CEO Pat Tallon.

The strategic move aligns with the Australian government's plan to jointly develop next-generation frigates with Japan, based on the Mogami-class design, the report said.

The project, involving participants like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011), represents one of Japan's largest defense equipment exports, the news site reported.
