U.S. Stocks Rally On Talk Around Shutdown, China -- Market Talk

1605 ET - U.S. stocks post strong gains to start the week as investors await a barrage of corporate earnings, while there is hopes for progress in trade talks with China as well as speculation about the possible end to the government shutdown. Cleveland-Cliffs stock rises 22% after the steelmaker reports better demand and says it will explore producing rare-earth minerals. Nearly one-fifth of the S&P 500 are due to report results this week, including Netflix and Tesla. DJIA gains 515 points, or 1.1%, to 46706, the S&P 500 climbs 1.1% to 6735 and the Nasdaq adds 1.4% to 22990. (patrick.sullivan@wsj.com)
