1212 ET - Mattel and Hasbro were hurt by retailers delaying orders of dolls, games and other toys destined to land under Christmas trees, causing 3Q toy sales to miss at both companies, JPMorgan analysts say in a research note. However, accelerating sales and lean inventories at retail suggest a strong finish to the year and make both companies' outlooks appear reasonable, the analysts add. Mattel's outlook is a bit more mixed, given the company's primary focus on toys and recent weakness in its Barbie franchise, the analysts say. They forecast FY sales at the low end of guidance. On the other hand, Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast and digital-gaming segment remains on fire and supports the bull case moving forward, the analysts note. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
