Shares of power producers rose as traders chased gains in the sector.

Utilities have thrived during a year of economic and geopolitical uncertainty, and as artificial-intelligence infrastructure has driven increases in power demand.

Santee Cooper, a big power provider in South Carolina, is in advanced talks to sell two inactive nuclear reactors to investment firm Brookfield Asset Management that could power data centers underpinning the AI boom.
