Large retail premises are a tiny proportion of all stores, yet account for a third of retail’s total business rates bill meaning another significant rise could push food inflation even higher.”The government’s £25bn payroll tax raid and above-inflation hike to national insurance have combined with several ingredient shortages to make food inflation come in at more than double the Bank’s two per cent target for several months.
