US New-Vehicle Sales Pace Expected to be Slower in October -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Oct 28

1354 ET - October's new-vehicle sales pace is expected to finish at around 15.7 million, down from September's level and lower than October of 2024, Cox Automotive says it its automotive forecast for the month. Electric vehicle sales in the month are expected to drop sharply, as tax credits for buyers expired in September. Charlie Chesbrough, senior economist at Cox Automotive, says "The new-vehicle sales pace was surprisingly strong this summer despite ongoing tariff uncertainty," and adds "as more tariffed products replace non-tariffed inventory, prices are tracking higher, which should lead to slower sales through the remainder of the year."
