--Chinese auto company BYD is considering opening an electric-vehicle factory in the Spanish region of Catalunya, Barcelona-based daily El Periodico reports, citing unnamed sources.

--Executives from BYD have visited the region several times in recent months to scout out a location for a possible EV plant, especially in areas close to regional ports, El Periodico reports.

--BYD didn't immediately respond to a request for comment when contacted by Dow Jones Newswires.
